Humanist activism can go beyond the so-called "politics of protest," i.e., filing a lawsuit every time you see a representation of God in a public place. This section of COHE was designed to show how humanist values can be applied to the political and social issues of the day -- and why it's important to do so.
Through courses in Humanist Activism and Organization, we will examine the issues on which humanists can and should take a stand, and explore the practical applications of organizing around humanist activism, outreach and community service.
Humanist Activism will familiarize students with the issues confronting humanists and the techniques available to engage in activism and outreach. Themes included in the course are applied humanist ethics (humanist service, advocacy, and defense), an overview of humanist values, concerns, and issues, and principles of humanist activism.
